About Glamping

Love spending time in the outdoors but dread packing up supplies, pitching a tent, gathering firewood, locating the nearest outhouse and waking up without your favorite cup of coffee? Glamping may be for you! What is glamping, you ask? Glamorous + Camping = “Glamping”. Best Nest Farm offers just that. Leave your tent at home and enjoy the luxury of a boutique hotel room immersed in nature.

About Us

Best Nest Farm started as wishful thinking, spurred at the time by the prospect of being empty nesters soon. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could downsize the house, upsize the yard, leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and find a small cozy home in the country with a couple of acres, just big enough to have a couple goats, maybe some chickens? I was born in Omaha, NE and lived there my entire life. Sure, I love the outdoors, love hiking, camping, etc., but I had no previous desire to live the country life. My husband Marcel was born and raised in the Netherlands, in a high rise in the city, where having a yard much bigger than a postage stamp was practically unheard of. Yet, our wishful thoughts persisted, so the three-year search for that perfect property began. In 2021, our search ended in the picturesque Loess Hills of Iowa, at Best Nest Farm.

In 2022, we welcomed our starter herd of lovely alpacas! (No goats yet…but they will take up residence in the near future!) These gentle, beautiful, and often comical animals quickly adjusted to their new environment and are taken care of with the assistance and watchful eyes and ears of Scout and Apollo, our friendly livestock guardian dogs. Our barn is also graced with three amiable and talented barn cats, who keep the mice population to almost nil. The list of future furry friends includes  miniature donkeys and yes, goats!

Since making our home at Best Nest Farm in 2021, we have enjoyed hosting many friends and family on our peaceful and serene property, where we are fortunate to have rolling hills, a beautiful lake, timberland with scenic hiking trails and farmland, which is currently planted in alfalfa. Friends and family have described our place as “an oasis”, “a retreat space”, “glimpse of paradise”, “like summer camp!”, “a peaceful, therapeutic and healing place”, and “a little slice of heaven”. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to share Best Nest and the serenity of country living with you. We hope to see you soon!

Cheers,

Amy Kern
